STUDENT LEADERSHIP 
STAFF RESPONSIBILITIES 

SELECTED THROUGH AUDITION AND/OR INTERVIEW PROCESS:
-DRUM MAJOR(S): must be a playing member or have some musical background
  1.      Responsible for the band while on the performance field or parade.
  2.     Responsible for the band during marching band rehearsals and at other times as appointed by the director.
  3.      Attendance
  4.      Responsible for, with assistance from other officers, monitoring the band hall, practice field, performances, or other times as appointed by the director.
  5.      Assigns tasks and duties to other officers and leaders.
  6.      In charge of any student Public Relations for the band program.

-BRASS, WOODWIND, PERCUSSION, & AUXILIARY CAPTAIN: responsible for the respective section which includes leading full sectional rehearsals, communicating instructions to the section leaders, nominating spirit stick winners, uniform inspection, assist with uniform issuance, or any task assigned to them by the director/drum major. These positions are appointed by the director and you must be a current Section Leader. The Auxiliary Captain will be responsible for tasks stated above as well as the visual ensemble at all times. Instructs, rehearses, and coordinates the visual ensemble under the direction of the directors/instructors.

-SECTION LEADERS: Leaders may be appointed by the band director of each playing section of the band. This position will be based on musicianship, attitude, leadership skills, and a representation of the 4-Ds. You must be a vet in order to obtain this position in band. It will be the duty and responsibility of these individuals to be in charge of their respective sections during full band and sectional rehearsals. In addition, the section leaders and the other student leadership staff of the band shall be responsible for the following areas of the band program as appointed by the director:
1.      Rehearsal Field:
  a.       Seeing that the band field is kept in good condition and report any needed repairs needed to the band director.
  b.      Marking and lining the rehearsal field.
  c.       Taking water to the field for marching band rehearsals.
2.      Rehearsal Hall:
  a.       Organizing and supervising all matters dealing with visual appeal, organization, and cleanliness of band room and surrounding areas.
  b.      Maintenance and storage of music stands.
3.      Drill Instructors:
  a.       Teaching basic marching maneuver to band members.
  b.      Teaching drill maneuvers to their unit of band members
4.      Secretarial:
  a.       Checking roll of band at rehearsals and report the roll to the drum major, as well as other functions of the band at the director’s request.
  b.      Writing thank you notes and letters as requested by the band director.
-MUSIC OFFICER: position appointed by director.
  1.      Issuing folders and music to band members
  2.      Cataloging, numbering, stamping, filing, and/or issuing new music.
  3.      Issuing any replacement parts to band members
  4.      Keeping band library in neat and working order
-EQUIPMENT MANAGERS: appointed by director. These groups of people are either alternates for specific sections or non-marching band members.
  1.      Loading and unloading of all instruments and equipment taken on any band trips
  2.      Transportation of all equipment and instruments needed for rehearsals to rehearsal area.
  3.      Inventory and insurance of all school owned instruments.
  4.      Any tasks assigned by director/drum major.
